at last, white

I don't know where I've been for the past week - distracted, anyway.

But we are having snow, finally. Snow actually on the ground, snow that makes it look like winter.

With a layer of icing on top. Not so welcome.  I made a mixture of seeds and peanut butter for the birds and hung it in front under the awning.

I hope they find it; small birds often hang around in that space, so they should. I had to bring it in to thaw once already, in order to chip off the ice layer. Tomorrow will be very cold, in the single digits, but only one day, thankfully.

    1. I'm so sorry you're having such awful heat, but it seems this happens in your region every summer?

    2. Yes...we do get hot summers, but they seem to be even hotter this year (global warming?). I tend to 'hibernate' in summer, and much prefer getting out and about in the colder winter weather, but our winters are not as harsh as yours. xx

  2. It looks so cold! We are cold here but not as cold as you - no snow only frost. It's -5 degrees centigrade tonight which I think is 23 degrees fahrenheit. I love the photo of the blue jug! Beautiful!

    1. Thanks, Clare! It's a little bitty thing I found at a tag sale or someplace. I've always loved colored glass. :)

  3. We are at the opposite end of the temperature extreme here. 111 F last Sunday and it was horrible. I'm making sure my birdbaths are kept topped up for the local birds and they seem grateful.

  4. It has snowed here, too, though thankfully the roads are more easily passable again. That is a swell little feeder idea! I wonder if there are orioles where you live--I know they're attracted to the color orange and folks uses oranges as feeders for them. Whatever you attract will be a delight though, I am sure. I put out a suet block last week. So far the nuthatches are all around it, but haven't yet taken a nibble. Soon, I hope.

    Lovely photos, Lisa.

    1. Thank you, Beth. You aren't going to get that awful cold, are you?

    2. Oh, orioles - I have seen them rarely in summer, always flying high up. I feel that I have to actively search for them or else I won't see any, so we may not have many. As for my little feeder, I never see any birds there! I don't get it. :(

    3. It sure can take the birdies a while to find a new feeder. That's why I should be more consistent about it, so they know my place is a good one to stop. But, I forget. Oh well. They'll find me eventually. (I hope.)

Looks like we might get a bit more snow, but no--I live in southcentral MT which is basically the banana belt of the state. :) It is wintery, sure, but not nearly so cold or snowy as the rest of the state most of the time. We did get 8 inches in one day last week though! It is all gone from the roads now, but the lawns are still white!
