Anyway, I hastily took this picture before I left the house. I really love it! But it's not very much like the dress I pinned; this lace has a scalloped edge, so two rows of it wouldn't have worked and I'm not so sure an a-line would have looked well with the double row of lace anyway. But I love the warm, dark blue color, and the lace looks well with it, which isn't so apparent here.
I had bought this fabric at least two years ago for some project or other. I remember that I was disappointed when it came because it was heavier than I expected. It's perfect for this! The ever-present wrinkles in linen clothing aren't as bad with a heavier fabric, it seems.
I love your dress and what a wonderful colour! I am so pleased you are happy with the result xx
ReplyDeleteIt is a great color. Thanks, Clare. :)
DeleteNice work! I hope it was a cool and breezy dream of a dress on a hot summer day. (Is is still summer? You have heat so I am going to roll with it though it depends on who you ask, I guess....we're back in session and the college I work at so it feels a bit like summer is over, but the garden says otherwise!)
ReplyDeleteTerrible heat! I think it's the end of summer when the weather says so, Beth. :)
Deleteoh that is a lovely dress and that lace at the end is just lovely! and I do like that picture, I've never seen one of you, I think! (I who never put pictures of myself on my blog understand this of course) but really, how lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like this dress way more than I expected to - thanks, Elizabeth!
Deletevery welcome! it really is quite becoming!
DeleteI have been enjoying my wrinkly linen clothes, too. I go through seasons of avoiding those blouses and pants, I guess because I'm not in the summery "casual" mood all the time...?
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's a linen year......
DeleteHow lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou are inspiring me to get the machine out and do some sewing. It's only a slight urge at the moment, but as the spring weather advances maybe my urge will grow!
And now I don't feel so bad that I've had fabric stashed away for a couple of years too :)) xx
Neither do I! :D I really thought I had made a bad purchase and would never find a use for that fabric. I just pulled it off the shelf (because it was on top) and told myself to make something with it and use it up! I also wanted to "make use of" the images I've pinned, so there it is! But I would still like to try and copy that dress a little more closely. And next time I think it would be easier to buy some wide lace I like, and then get fabric to match!
DeleteYou have given me hope that I will find a use for some of my fabric too :) xx
DeleteKeep that hope alive! :)
