Lynda had wanted to see this -
here it is, wrinkled! It's extremely basic. Four panels, with the hand top stitching only on the front and back center seams. Elastic at the waist in a turn-over style casing, and no hem needed. Next time I'll probably do some sort of embellishment.
Thanks Lisa. The hand stitching looks interesting. I like elastic waists too, because I can't do zippers :)
ReplyDeleteWell, you would never need a zipper with a knit! It's interesting working with knits.
ReplyDeletehow nice!!! :) looks comfortable too! :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks incredibly comfortable! Did you handsew the whole thing, a la Pleasant View? This is inspiring. I would love a simple, comfy skirt like that for summer. Can you say more about what knit you used?
ReplyDeleteMargo, years ago after seeing this post http://pleasantviewschoolhouse.blogspot.com/2005/09/in-sewing-room.html and not being able to find a basic a-line skirt pattern, I found this same pattern on ebay, and have used it MANY times. For this knit skirt, I cut the two pieces, and just cut each down the center, because I wanted more seaming. I sewed all the seams with a slight zigzag on the machine (and I think Anna often does hers by machine, too) and then just did the top-stitching by hand with heavy duty thread, doubled. It's just a running stitch. I was going to use foldover elastic at the waist but realized that because my waist was fuller, and would be gathered, that wouldn't work. So I just folded the top over for a casing, machine stitched it and put in some elastic. No hem. Yes, it's comfortable. But I think any loose, long skirt, even in woven is comfy - I'm a skirt lover! I'll email you some more information.
DeleteHave no idea what happened there, but I'm not going to re-type! :D
