I hope everyone had a lovely Easter observance. Our orthodox friends will have it tomorrow. The season lasts until Pentecost - we have a nice, long way to go.
"But after pondering Christ's Passion, we will spend the rest of April and beyond rejoicing in the light of his Resurrection, learning to come alive in his life."
- Fr. Philip Nolan, from Magnificat, April 2026
Thank you Lisa, yes we had a very nice Easter observance and we are now settling into the beauty of Eastertide. Our Gospel reading today (Low Sunday) was from St John and, of course, was about Thomas. Our priest asked if we think that it is easier to believe in the Resurrection now, in the 21st century, than it was then, just a day after it had happened. A difficult question! I believe; I have faith, I read the bible, the good news has been passed down to me through other Christians for 2000 years. However, it is easy for non-practising Christians now-a-days to pooh-pooh the whole thing and call it a fairy tale and wishful thinking. Thomas said he didn't believe what the other disciples said and would only believe if he saw Christ's wounds. I think he was jealous and envious that they had witnessed this miracle and he hadn't been there. He made sure he was with them the following week! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, we had doubting Thomas, too! What an interesting question. I think it's difficult for everyone, and it takes application, like anything! As you said, reading, praying - it's necessary. And with multitudes of distractions in this age, we have to make a big effort to be faithful.
DeleteYes! :)
DeleteHappy Easter!
ReplyDeleteEastertide is such a nice word, and season. All the way to Ascension and Pentecost -- Christ is risen!
