Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

- Robert Frost

  1. Oh, I love that poem! I hadn't read it in a long time, and it makes me happy just now, it's so elegant. Even though it is about death and grief, its beauty declares the life and power of the creative human spirit, that can still lead a fulfilling life, even in the face of that unavoidable death. There is so much beauty in this passing world.
