book vs. e-book

"Holding a book, discerning the fonts, touching the dry ink, feeling the thickness of the paper as one turns the pages, writing in the margins: All bring us into communion with author and message. We hold books, their heft a hint of their heft....Try doing that with your e-book."

                                  -    from a piece by Peter J. Travers in the current issue of National Review

  1. Yes. I love books and wouldn't be without them. However, e-books are so useful in certain situations.

    1. I have a couple of e-books on my tablet, but haven't read any of them. I forget they're there, and looking at the screen so much gives me a headache. I imagine when traveling they're useful.

    2. I can't read an e-book for long because of headache and eyestrain and they aren't comfortable to hold either. When travelling they're good and they are useful for trying authors out. E-books are often cheaper than proper books and if I really like an e-book I'll get a paper one.

  2. My feelings exactly! I wish I could fall in love with my Kindle. I've tried; we're just not meant to be. :)

Another thing you can't do with an e-book is riffle through the pages.

Or pick up and read when it's not charge. Bleh!

Hope you're feeling better, Lisa. ♥

    1. Thanks, Susan. It is better today than yesterday. A little at a time.

  3. No e-books or audio books for me. I like to hold the paper copy in my hands, and I don't like to hear someone else's voice in my head reading an audio book! :) xx
