the countdown

Before Thanksgiving, my brother came home with a lemon poppy seed cake from a client. It isn't Advent yet, but I am counting this anyway, counting it as the beginning of the holiday offerings which inundate us every December.

very tasty

I talk about it here, but this year I'm photographing everything. Then, you'll see. Because you don't get it, I know you don't. But you'll see.*

*of course, it's possible this Christmas things will change, and we won't get so much. That would be okay.

  1. I remember you mentioning this. I think all of them give it with love! Do you freeze a lot of it?

    1. Only something like a quick bread, but most of it is cookies or candy - we don't freeze that. The trouble is that you're right - it's given with great affection for him and he wants to at least try everything, so it's not like we can say, "Enough already, let's pass this on". I am going to try and be more organized with it this year and maybe I can do something differently.

  2. I remember too. Poor lonely batchelor! He has no-one to care for him and no special food at Christmas! :D

    2. Poor you xx Some women just cannot help it. The priest Mum had at her church a few years ago was a batchelor and the ladies from the church used to bake for him ALL the time. If he wasn't at home they used to post the food in through the cat-flap! It could be worse. You might have had continuous food parcels!

    3. I suppose if he were my hairdresser, I'd do the same. When he first started in the business and worked at a place with older clientele near a city, he'd get bottles of booze - and our family are not drinkers! So, this is better - it's just the volume! But each person has no idea of how many others are having the same idea... :D

  3. Do you freeze some of it? Or... just eat? Is there anyone to pass it on to? This situation would be challenging for me!!

    1. He does want to at least try each offering. Then, we end up eating it - albeit over a fairly long period of time, like a little dessert every night, which we don't generally have. So Advent is not a time of fasting in this house - it's impossible! I will freeze the little cakes or quick breads. I'm going to see if I can do anything differently this time.

  4. Oh goodness. That does look nice, and what a lovely thought, but I can imagine that it would be easy to put on weight with a constant supply. Hope it is varied!
