I find this quote very interesting. To have the words 'humility' and 'refusal' in the same sentence seems almost paradoxical. A Christian militant indeed! Humility is the queen of virtues, yes, and we see that Weil's humility is to God alone and to no person. She appears so sure of herself.
That's an interesting observation, Clare! I know nothing about her, except they've been recently putting quotes from her in the meditations. Maybe she said it when she was a young, fiery thing! But you make me wonder...
She was a fiery woman and died very young of TB. Many people thought she was insane but she was driven to help people and put herself in great danger. Because she was so reckless it was thought she would put others in danger too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simone_Weil
