It's funny - I'm rather enjoying trying to do without the air conditioning so far. It's kind of fun. I imagine we'll use it at some point, but the fans are pulling cool air in the house all evening, night and morning, and that's sayin' something.
Yes. My grandparents were always able to keep their house comfortable in the summers, and I don't remember their even using a plug-in oscillating fan very often. One of my aunts bought them one they kept on a side-table in the living room, but I only remember seeing it in-use a couple days. They had heavy drapes instead of curtains in all their windows except for the kitchen's and bathroom's, and there were enough tall trees right around their house to help cool it inside. It must have been enough.
Here, however, we have been incredibly uncomfortable. Our apartment only has five windows total, and we just don't seem to be on the side of the building that catches a good breeze. The bathroom finally cools off in the wee hours of the morning, but that's not where we sleep or live or eat, soooooooooooooooo. . . .I try not to complain, but it seems the hotter or more humid it is, the more of a headache I get--I don't know if it's a pressure-change, or just discomfort that causes the headaches--and it's just been miserable for me this summer more often than not. We have a window air conditioning unit in one window, in the main room, but the one in the bedroom broke and we haven't replaced it yet--and since it's almost August, we likely won't this summer. Money's just gone to other things. And one plug-in fan. I would love central air. A rustic old stone cottage nestled into the woods WITH central air: Dare to dream! :)
Phil, turn it one way and it blows in, turn it around and it sucks the hot air out. I haven't tried the latter. I got them on Amazon. This is rather loud, but I am not complaining. I imagine there are brands out there which are quieter, like any other type of fan. The sucking hot air out is something which I can't get my mind around. I mean, there are no vacuums, so... the hot air from other rooms would just fill in, wouldn't ya think??? Or maybe I'm dumb. :)
Yes! Especially this summer. :)

Val - a stone cottage in the woods? Would you need AC? :D
DeleteSo...do they blow air in or suck air out? I'm rather curious....we don't have these type of fans where we live (well I have never seen them)
