keeping celery

I've had such problems keeping celery from getting wilted and rubbery. Then I read - I think in Leila's blog, but I'm not sure - that you should wrap it in foil.  And it seems to work!  Thank you, whoever.

  1. Seriously? Can it really be that simple? Keep us posted...

  2. I think so, Debbie. I used to keep it in the bag it comes in, but with a paper towel around it inside the bag - I thought it would absorb the moisture and prevent wilting. It didn't really do much. My mother used to wash and dry it, cut it in chunks and keep it in a plastic container, where it kept better, but it'd get pale looking.

This kept it quite a while until there were only a couple of stalks left and it wilted, but by that time I wasn't really making sure it was wrapped in the foil.

  3. We eat it up so fast, but when I do rarely have some last for more than a few days this is a trick I will use. Thanks Lisa!

  4. This is a neat trick! I will have to try it.

My best trick is when a glass pan is burnt and won't come clean just stick a bounce fabric softener in it with some water. Let it soak and then all you have to do is wipe it clean. It works. My SIL always burns my coffee pot black because she forget it isn't auto-turn off! ;)

  7. Thanks for the tip! I just threw some out because it had wilted so badly. I'll try this the next time I have celery.
