I saw rabbit tracks in the snow around the bird feeder; do rabbits eat sunflower seeds? I hope he found some food.
I finished reading The Bird in the Tree. It's the first in a trilogy, with the middle one being my favorite. But I had forgotten how good this was - or maybe I hadn't realized it before. I'm wanting to read the whole thing again, but it's not long ago I read the second, so I may just go right to the third, which is The Heart of the Family - I don't remember it that well, but I know I loved these three books.
"In times of storm and tempest, of indecision and desolation, a book already known and loved makes better reading than something new and untried. The meeting with remembered and well-loved passages is like the continual greeting of old friends; nothing is so warming and companionable."
- Elizabeth Goudge, The Bird in the Tree
Meanwhile, I continue with J.D. Vance's memoir of his youth in Appalachia. He's come a long way from that very unstable childhood, to the fellow who made that terrific speech in Munich the other day.
We had our first snow last night which, though it was only a light dusting, managed to stay on the ground until midday today! It was nice to see and makes me realise how much I miss having snow during the winter. We used to have so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing JD Vance's speech. I listened to it in full as I had only previously heard a few sentences. I must say I agree wholeheartedly with what he had to say. I have not known who to vote for in recent years as all our political parties appear to disregard the people whose lives they are supposed to protect and spend their time arguing amongst themselves or trying to annoy the opposing parties. It is good to see such a young man as Vice President too!
Clare, I'm glad to hear you had some snow. Our winters aren't what they were when I was growing up, but this month has been more like it, with more to come on Thursday. It's so much prettier than dead grass and mud.
DeleteThe speech amazed me, and I am so relieved to hear normal thinking and sense spoken by a leader. May God keep them all in his care.
You're making me wonder if it's time for me to read some of the Goudge that is on my shelves, whether it's one I've read before, or a new one -- I have multiple examples of each! I love that quote from her.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a good time. :)
