peppers, at least

I don't recall if I already said this, but our big garden was a bust this summer - my brother didn't roto-till it as early as usual, and the very wet July killed several plants - most of them! I do think our preoccupation with Sweetie's illness was a factor.

The little garden beside the back door is giving us plenty of peppers, though. There are always white blossoms on the plants.

Something to be grateful for.

  2. Those look wonderful peppers! We have been unsuccessful with most of our vegetables too. However, all of the fruit trees (except the pear) are looking good. :)

    1. Do you have many fruit trees, Clare? Are you having to spray them?

    2. We have three apple trees (one sweet eating apple and two cooking apple trees), one pear tree (better for cooking with), one greengage tree and a couple of very old damson trees that don't fruit much these days. We also have a fig tree which produces well but it has got too big and is too near the house so we will be cutting it down this winter. We don't spray any of our trees though we do put grease bands on the apple trees (when we remember) to try to prevent codling moth infestation.

  3. I don't know about you, but peppers are my favorite. If I got nothing else from the garden I would be disappointed, but the peppers would certain help ease my pain. ;)

    1. It's nice to hear this, Beth! My brother is sorely missing his tomatoes, I'm sure, although he isn't complaining to me. But we are enjoying the peppers.

  4. Yay! Those are nice looking peppers. Are they sweet or spicy? I haven't grown peppers in a long time, but my favorite were pimientos...

    1. These are just regular peppers - we're not into the hot stuff around here so much. :)
