I grew paperwhites once. I found them at Wal-Mart in the cutest Winnie-the-Pooh container, brought them home, sat it on the window sill, watered it, and had the prettiest paperwhites. My husband and daughter said they stunk! I couldn't believe it. I have a hard time smelling things anyway, but really, they were so pretty, but I had to put them outside!! Good luck with yours ~ they're easy to grow. :-)
Good luck with your Paperwhites Lisa! I was interested to read Anne's comment. Paperwhites do have a very strong scent which is sweet at first but very soon starts to smell unpleasant. I often find that hyacinths and some lilies grown indoors do the same thing. I also find that they grow very tall and need staking before they flop over.
I don't know what Paperwhites are? Maybe we call them something different here?
I bought a little succulent in an ugly black plastic pot while away, and I did a similar thing as you...put a brown paperbag around it and tied with a string. I think it looks nice. xx
Lynda, paperwhites are tiny but tall narcissi. Supposed to be very fragrant. I really wanted a brown paper bag, but grabbed the white one first, then realized the funny coincidence.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. I actually will have a problem with them if they have fragrance! But I'll cross that bridge if I come to it. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm afraid if I do succeed with them, they will have to go to the library at a later time. :)
