My old blanket is still good, but the bindings weren't. I found among my mother's sewing things a packet of light blue blanket binding, but that was only enough for one end.
So I used matching quilting cotton and made my own, folding under and pressing a quarter-inch edge on both long sides and sewing it onto the blanket with a zigzag instead of straight stitch. Now I have a choice when I change the sheets - do I want the blue end showing, or the green?
Now you have to say "light blue blanket binding" five times as fast as you can. :D
Good job, isn't it nice to give something loved and useful a second chance and extend it's life, when it gets a bit worn you can use it on the back or in the middle of a quilt.
ReplyDeleteBits of old blanket make great middles for pot holders, and oven cloths, as the wool is a good insulator.
We have had a week of rain (180mls) and another week, to come (5-10mls a day) I am getting cabin fever, lucky I am off to stay with daughter and grandsons for a few days : )
Enjoy your visit with them, Margaret - maybe when you come home the sun will come out.
DeleteI appreciate all reminders to use what we have on hand.
ReplyDeleteI like this idea! The blanket looks good as new.
I was afraid because I used cotton that it would look wrinkly after washing, but no such thing.
DeleteClever, I love it!
