About four weeks ago I got tired of wading through fabric and firmly told myself to use it up; as quilts are large, a few of those would do the trick nicely.
I took hold of the nearest piece which was this colored toile. After a week of having some real time to devote to it, it's ready for binding.
I have never made a quilt from start to finish. I started my circle quilt, and have done a lot on it, but I'm kind of hung up with that, waiting for inspiration on how to continue. With this, I just plowed ahead. And I used up a few of my big pieces!
I made a lot of goofs, but I am not a perfectionist. I imagine practice is going to improve my "technique", such as it is. Meanwhile, they'll all be warm, and colorful.
I think the fabrics are gorgeous. I love those toile prints. They tell a little story.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can find your inspiration for the circle quilt soon but there is usually another project to move on with in the mean time.
Tracy
I really should just force myself, Tracy - I am almost finished with the circles, but I am not sure how I want to quilt the in-between parts.
DeleteNow, however, I feel that I've caught the quilting bug from Anna, so maybe I'll finally finish the thing. :D
I LOVE IT!!!! great colors =)
ReplyDeleteI love that toile print! Quilting.....I have to get back to my quilting.:). Good for you for making a big dent in your stash!
ReplyDeleteWell done, I hope it keeps you nice and warm, it is amazing how much my "old faithful" gets used all year round, for lazing with a book,Nanna naps, and late afternoon in the hammock out in the breeze, watching the sunset.
ReplyDeleteI hope we get to see a full length pic, to admire your hard work and creativity :)
That toile print is wonderful! Is it older? I don't see many these days that are so colorful.
ReplyDeleteNo, it isn't vintage or anything - I think I've had it 3 years or so. But I don't recall where I got it. I was going to make a knitting bag, which would have been nice, but I never got around to it. I haven't seen many toile prints with actual color in them - have you?
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat toile. A colorful one is new (or "news"?) to me. The quilt looks wonderful, Lisa. :)
ReplyDeleteoh, I like what I see! Would love to see a larger picture. I take a very similar approach to quilts, as I'm sure you know. It's so satisfying.
ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies! I worked on the binding today, but it'll take a while to do the handwork on it. Then, I'll take a picture of the whole thing. But I have to say my machine stitching wasn't terribly straight - rather pitiful, actually. I should have used the masking tape method. :O
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely colors! Very nice, Lisa! I have never been brave enough to attempt a quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this! I have been taking a quilt of the month class at Close to Home (glast.) It is far above my skill most months. But it is only 5 dollars for the kit...you pay only once, so long as you complete your month quilt square and show up on time (teacher is a stickler about this).
ReplyDeleteI also found a free quilt of the month on Craftsy. It requires a registration, but it is totally free. Planning on adding it to our homeschool (a few of them anyway) to get me out of fear and into teaching my girls some sewing.
Let me know if you want more info on either.

Thanks, Kimmie - I kinda like to schlep along in my own way. Currently I'm cutting out different sized pieces for a throw, and also some strips for a log cabin one, like Anna's been doing lately.
DeleteDon't be afraid to just sew pieces together! And then quilt them!
