the half-made home

"Nobody has a right to be bored in a half-made home. A home which is not a fair expression of us at our best, a home which lacks what it might have, a home which is in any part more ugly or in any part more uncomfortable than it absolutely need be...a home which cannot be run without waste, a home which by any detail gets on the nerves of its inhabitants and so impairs the harmony of their existence - something ought to be done about such a home."

                                         -  Arnold Bennett,  quoted by Sarah Ban Breathnach in Simple Abundance

  1. I love this post! I'll have to share it with a friend...poor thing just moved into a new home and is putting an addition onto it to make a larger kitchen, mudroom, pantry, and living space. Their previous home was a half-made home so they decided to do something about it. Maybe I'll call their existing home the 2/3 home since it's on its way to being a whole.:) Meanwhile, she suffers amidst dust, construction, and a temporary kitchen set up in her basement along with her 4 children and husband.:(

  2. I need to read this book, great quote Lisa.

    1. Kathy, it's very New Age - and many of the things she says aren't new anymore;but I think she was one of the first to put out these ideas.(it was published in the 90's.) But it isn't Christian - I just take from it what seems good to me, and leave the rest.

  3. Yes. And I love that book. It's been quite awhile since I first read it.
