Birthday presents on hold for Cyndi, almost a month after the fact.  Well, life happens. 

I know I won't be seeing her today - we're going to have a blizzard later. Two or maybe even three feet of snow. Kinda scary.

I was recently looking for a green sweater and found a good deal at LOFT online, a sixty dollar one for only twenty. When it came, I looked at the fabric content - it said five percent angora rabbit hair.

I suddenly began to wonder if little rabbits are killed for the stuff. Poked around online and found out that they're usually shaved.

Then I found myself wondering if they minded being shaved; if they were kept in over-crowded pens, like chickens. I eventually came across a little video about keeping them for a side business and how to shave them. The bunny didn't appear disturbed by the process. I guess I was satisfied enough to keep the sweater, which I was getting ready to send back.

And then Purl Bee posted these knitted hat patterns with angora in them - Whitney says the hair is combed from the rabbits, at least with this yarn she used. Well, I'm glad to hear that things aren't as bad as I'd originally feared. I hope.

Emily and I went to a local park. My family had gone there many times when I was a child, but since then more acreage has been added, and more gardens.   A fu dog guards the place.

These steps led brought us near a beautiful Japanese style garden,

with a fountain and real water lilies.

There were gardens and water fowl everywhere we turned. In the wetlands garden we saw a pond so covered with algae, we weren't sure it was a body of water till we spied some ducks gliding along.

Suddenly they all started toward land - a young couple had some food for them.

There were statues - of unicorns and a lion, a sailboat and another fu dog.  

A fairy, and a pagoda with stained glass peacocks for windows.

There was an area with all sorts of poultry and other wild birds in cages

flowers, flowers everywhere,

and of course a kitty in somebody's window to see us on our way.

just like auntie Adeline

I never thought I'd be buying one of those big cans of olive oil like Auntie Adeline always had at her house. She was my father's younger sister, and a great favorite of mine. I see them and I think of her.

They're so big! I don't think my mother ever bought this much at a time. But it was half price, and what with the olive oil butter I'm making more of lately, the stuff does seem to be going a lot faster.  

Kind of iconic.
