with the light burning at the back of my eyes

We've had a lot of windy days lately, and today was one of them, but bright blue and clear. The temperatures are up and down, like they always are in spring. Too chilly for window-washing.

I have a piece of fabric for the dress bodice lining, but it's been put aside for a blouse I'm working on. What I would really like is to make something, to finish it! To wear it!

Daisy turned four the other day, and I totally didn't notice it. No worries, neither did she.

I'm re-reading Sarah Clarkson's Reclaiming Quiet:

"I hungered for quiet, not just the cessation of noise but that deep inward hush in which the kindness of God is the light burning at the back of our eyes so that we look upon the world in the brightness of his companionship."

  1. That is a beautiful quote! I will try to read her book.
Yes! All those unfinished projects! I have just sorted out a load of knitting, balls of wool, patterns etc etc. I took the lot to a knitting and crafter's sale and donated them to people that would make use of them. I want to knit something but the heaps of old half finished stuff was holding me back. I have recently stopped reading multiple books at the same time. Only three on the go at the moment! There are some books that I can't get into or don't really like so instead of making a decision about them I start another book! Madness really.
I like the windswept bird photo. Is that a robin?

  2. Yes, an American robin. They're everywhere, very familiar every year. I just saw a youtube video about a fellow who was befriended by one of your native robins, and this little bird helped him out at a difficult time. Your robin is much cuter than ours! :) I hope you feel relieved about unloading your unfinished projects - sometimes it just has to be done!
Sarah Clarkson has a very beautiful way of expressing things. She's American, was homeschooled, is married to an Anglican priest, lives in Oxford and they have five children.

  3. "to make something, finish it. And to wear it." Yes! I like your style of writing. I love the quote. I won't start another book now. I am still reading about the bears. and enjoying it!

    1. Oh, I'm glad you've got the bears, Mary! How I loved that.
I was just working on the blouse.
