Feast of All Saints

All holiness flows from God's holiness. Jesus Christ, God's Only Begotten Son, is the wealth of his house; the Spirit pouring out upon the world through his Death and Resurrection is the stream of God's delight and the source of life. These gifts of God's love are what make human beings holy.

  1. We celebrated All Saints yesterday as All Saints Sunday, which was lovely! I took Mum to mass at her church in the morning and then went to Evening Prayer at our church, which now the clocks have gone back starts at 4.30 pm. The sun had just set as the service started and was absolutely dark when we left with bright stars and frost coming on.

    1. Your description of the afternoons reminds me of the American broadcast of the Cambridge Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. The announcer often has the same script at the end, and he describes how it was light when the faithful entered the chapel and darkening when they come out. I always like hearing him say it, and picturing it when I'm home, it's late morning and Christmas Eve is nigh. I can feel the seriousness of the event coming upon me after hearing the broadcast.

  2. I love the Cambridge Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols! I always have it on in the kitchen when I'm working away like mad thinking I'll never get everything done on time. An evening meal to prepare, mince pies to finish, more presents to wrap and still get to Midnight Mass! It calms me a little listening to all the well-known carols and readings. The chapel looks so beautiful and the service is so unhurried - I'm always improved in temper after I've watched/listened to the broadcast! :D

    1. Oh, you get to watch it! That figures, since you're in England; we hear it on the radio, but that's fine with me - I can listen while I'm cooking.
