more from Mother Goose

There's been a chickadee flapping against our front windows yesterday and again today. I heard a tapping in the spare room and saw him trying to get in. It was so cloudy, it can't be that he was seeing his reflection; still, I headed over to pull down the shade but Dolly was there before me, leaping onto the sill and trying to get him through the glass. I think that scared him off.

Once I saw a little bird
Come hop, hop, hop;
So I cried, "Little bird,
Will you stop, stop, stop?"

And was going to the window
To say, "How do you do?"
But he shook his little tail,
And far away he flew.

  1. How very apt! :)
    I once had a cat who got so very excited seeing a bird fly past the window that she leapt out the window after it. We were two floors up! I thought she had died as she was so still on the path below but then she raced off in a panic. I eventually found her hiding in a garden a few hundred yards up the road. We took her to the vets and she was kept in for a couple of days. She had broken one of her front legs and a few teeth and had shock. She clumped around with her leg in a plaster for a few weeks and then was fine. I never left that window open again.

    1. Clare, you have so many cat stories! That poor kitty, in shock like that. Once, on a summer night, I had pushed up the glass on my bedroom window and forgot to pull down the screen. Dolly actually sat on that windowsill for TEN MINUTES and did not jump out. I thank God for it whenever I remember it! I guess she was so used to being in the windows? Or it seemed too high to her, even though a first floor? I don't know. (good girl, Dolly)
