not entirely one hundred percent

After four years, I just realized something today about Henry - I've never heard him make that "eh eh eh eh eh" staccato sound they make when they see a bird outside the window. Never! I've often suspected he wasn't one hundred percent cat.  :D

But when he's near an open window he often cries. I run over, thinking it's some animal going through, but usually nothing can be seen. Today however, some birds flew off and it occurred to me that maybe he's crying when he sees birds. Because he doesn't make the other sound. Ever.

Seriously though, I would like to know what kind of cat he is.

  1. Ginger makes the "eh, eh, eh..." There are finches at our local animal shelter right now and being a bit of a bird nut I told Matt about them. He said we couldn't do that to Ginger who would just be crazy with the "eh, eh, eh..." My sister had a cat that didn't meow "right" and would make a different kind of staccato noise. I also had a cat who I seriously think was part dog. She liked to swim and ride in the car and everything. What diverse, strange, wonderful critters.

  2. Birds at the animal shelter! I would never expect that.

You are right - I don't know why I'm surprised at their diverse ways. They're so fascinating, and such good friends for humans.

    1. Our shelter is mostly cats and dogs, but occasionally there are ferrets, birds, guinea pigs and other little critters.

  3. I don't think I've ever heard Stuffed make a sound at a bird. He used to see birds and squirrels often out on the fire escape from one of "his" windows at our last apartment, and he would sometimes stand up and paw at the window, but I don't think he ever made any noise. I wonder how different of a cat he would be if he'd grown up with another cat around. He's been the only cat of each place he's lived since he was first separated from his litter. Maybe that's part of it?

And I love the last picture that shows off Henry's fluffy head. It looks like he has the same pretty fur as our puff ball, the aptly-named Stuffed. :)

    1. It's so interesting to hear about these different cat characters. Dolly has definitely become more vocal since Henry, and even more since Cindy. Although, she came from a house with fifteen cats!

  4. It is amazing how they are all different, Miss Coco is more dog than cat too, I thought she was a small Burmese, but have since found out she is Tonkinese.
She is not the least stand offish, and expects everyone to sit about and make her a lap to curl up on, so she can have a nap with cuddles. When I am using the laptop, she drapes herself over my left arm and goes to sleep.... makes for interesting typing ! she follows me everywhere, I will have to see if she likes rides in the car.
Some cats are full on hunters and get very excited when they see a bird, but others just have a look and turn away with a ho hum attitude.

    1. Cindy goes into my lap as I'm typing here, her cold wet nose pushing my hands. Miss Coco sounds like a good companion!

  5. That sound eh eh eh is almost like they go into a trance. Both my cats do this, the female more so. Your Henry is adorable!

    1. Everybody says that about Henry! You are right, I think - they get so fixated on the birds. Thank God those birdies are out of reach!
