free wrapping paper

I ordered two good sized things from Amazon, and they came today with so much packing paper that I just couldn't fathom stuffing it into the recycling bin.

And then I noticed that it was really just wrinkled-up looking craft paper, and why would I want to get rid of that anyway?

About two feet wide, and - I don't know - twenty feet long??  And two pieces of it!

My first thought was, Can it be ironed?  You can iron tissue-y pattern pieces, must be able to iron this stuff. I went to Pinterest and searched under brown packing paper. I saw many photos of gifts wrapped in craft paper, but there was one which used wrinkled paper!  It looked cute to me!

 I started folding.

and this is all one piece!

I'll use it on the next gift I have to wrap and report back here.

  1. That's a good idea. Sometimes if I have a box to mail, I'll wrap it with a paper bag. I've kept packing from Amazon too. I stick stickers all over the box, and it looks cute. You could use it as wrapping paper with a burlap bow, that's appreciated these days. :-)

  2. I've done this!!! It can look just fine! I ordered some nice red ribbon with a bit of metal in it for shape and used amazon and other shipper's craft paper... if it has wrinkles, well, I think it does not matter! here's my Christmas post with this wrapping (and 1 roll of 'real' wrapping paper): http://eroosje.blogspot.com/2014/01/first-day-of-christmas-and-second-day.html

I think you just got a treasure trove of free wrapping paper! :) My goodness it is a lot even in the picture! that's great! :)

  3. and the trees say 'thank you Lisa!'
Of course some pretty ribbon will make it look even better. I try to recycle as much as possible. We stack up the comics from the Sunday paper and use it for our kids for gifts. They could care (especially the boys)...just love tearing it open to see what is under all that paper and tape.

    1. I don't know why I haven't thought of it before - I've been wanting to get some kraft paper - good things come to those who wait. :)

  5. I've saved brown packing paper before and hung it in my hallway for the children to write and color on. But, using it to wrap gifts is a great idea!
