knitted zip pouches

I've been occupying myself and also using up yarn with these zippered pouches from a holiday craft magazine. (MSL 2006)  I made one, then thought I could have done better, so I'm knitting up a couple more.

The first was brown with a red zipper and colorful corduroy lining. I didn't know what to do with it until I discovered it was just the right size for a friend's gift.

I found someone who could use this one.

There's a pink zipper in this one, because this fabric is going to line it. It's a better match than it looks here.

I'm making different goofs with each one, but that's a good way to learn; at some point I'll have it figured out - I'll perfect it!

  1. Happy New Year, Your posts stopped coming to me at the end of the year, so I thought you were on holidays, I was just about to leave a comment on 31st Dec hoping you were back soon ...then thought I would check the archive dates, and sure enough there were some posts for January.
Just catching up now, the purses look nice and useful, when you have all the goofs solved, write out the instructions, so you know how to make a perfect one first time next time :)

  2. What a nice gift, I can't see any mistakes through the pictures at all! Great idea for handmade gifts!

    1. What I meant was that the gift fitted nicely into the pouch, and with a pretty bow it looked good. (alas, I took a photo, but accidentally deleted it!)

  3. The brown looks orange on my monitor... orange would be good. This is the second post about pouches I read today! The Cationess made fabric pouches to use up scraps from stash, you're using yarn from stash. I should reconsider pouches...

    1. Oh, sorry for the confusion, Hana - I don't have a photo of the brown one. Yes, that first is orange.

Of course, it's easier to sew a pouch, but I'm kind of enjoying this process.

  4. Hi Lisa,

I found you through your comment on Rhonda Jean's site. I love your little pouches, especially the blue one with the pink zipper. How fun it must be to open it up and see the pretty lining pick up the pink color of the zipper! You've inspired me to make a couple of knitted pouches soon. I usually make clothes ones, but knitted ones will be awfully nice as gift bags that keep on giving.

About the sewn bags: I've made wee bags to hold the money for each week's allowances. I used a print with pigs (lined with a dirty-looking print)for "pigging out once in a while at a restaurant"; a chicken print (lined with a print that had eggs all over it) for "butter and egg money just for my personal fun things"; a turtle print for "long term savings for household repairs"; and a frog one for the weekly groceries just because I love frogs. It was so much fun deciding on prints for each category.

Sorry to write such a long comment...you've excited me at the prospect of knitting bags instead of sewing them!
